Band President Andy Bryan

Since the band's formation in 1999, it has grown rapidly from its modest beginnings of only ten pipers and a few drummers to close to 60 adult playing members and this year (2008) we have formed and registered our very own Novice Juvenile Pipe band.

Band members come from all over North Ayrshire and beyond.
The Band is currently lead by Pipe Major David Mitchell and assisted by many others.

Wearing our own designed 'Isle of Cumbrae' tartan the band has impressed audiences at parades, gala's, concerts, legion events, festivals, and ceremonies. It has participated in local and international competitions and tattoos.

Our band was first formed in 1999 by Andy Bryan and some of the committee members from the Millport Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS).The first few soles came from Millport, Largs, Fairlie and other

areas of North Ayrshire .Some of; the early committee members, as well as putting in much hard work into the band, personally purchased equipment essential for the Pipe Band.
The island 'postie' and local piper Peter Morrison took on the role of Pipe Major of the 'RBLS Millport Branch Garrison Pipe Band'.

From there things began to develop. By word of mouth, and adverts in the local paper, interested pipers and drummers became aware of the new band. North Ayrshire has always had a good Pipe Band tradition and has seen many well respected Pipe Bands form and, sadly, disband. So there were a number of ex-bandsmen in the shire sitting at home with good instruments and experience.

Some, against better judgment, rose to the challenge of being involved in a new Pipe Band and, having seen the destruction of other bands in the area, joined with some caution. As in the case of many new bands their first engagements saw the band in a variety of uniforms

The first band AGM was held on Saturday 23rd of November 2002. At this the band was formally established, a new band name adopted, Constitution and Rules was agreed upon and the office bearers elected. Mr. David Mitchell was unanimously elected the Pipe Major of a core of around 10 Pipers and 6 Drummers. The purchasing of uniforms and equipment such as pipes, drums, etc has taken time and money and our initial few members are now around 60 including 18 Juveniles
The Band has recently designed a new tartan which will be called the "Isle of Cumbrae". Our engagements take us far and wide you could come across us in Millport as well as other parts of North Ayrshire including, Largs, Beith, Saltcoats, Marymass Festival Irvine, Culzean Castle, Kilwinning also Glasgow Edinburgh and Perth.
